Malia's Books

Books that i love and would recommend to any other book lover!

Summer reads and the College Struggle

This last summer I read 25 books... 25 books! It was amazing knocking off so many books that had just been sitting in my to-be-read shelf. And the best part is that I found multiple book series that I loved. I have found that it takes a lot for me to really LOVE a series. The main ones that stand out for me that I read over this summer are:

  • 1) The Throne of glass series by Sarah J Mass:

(THESE BOOKS!) At first reading throne of glass I wasn’t to sure how I felt about it. Celaena was pretty annoying and she talked a lot about how awesome she was but she really didn’t show any of her awesomeness in that first book... But then I read the prequels and I fell in love! I read all the way up to Heir of Fire within like a week. Can’t wait for Queen of Shadows! (Team Chaol!)

  • 2) The 5th Wave Trilogy by Rick Yancey:

So to be completely honest I had no idea this book was about aliens when I picked it up. read both The 5th Wave and Infinite Sea and really liked them both but I definitely enjoyed the first book more. Infinite Sea was one of those books were sometimes you have to just put the book down to think and try to understand what the heck just happened. I know a lot of people didn’t like it, yes it was slower but I still enjoyed it. (Team Evan!)

  • 3) The Lux series by Jennifer L Armentrout

Have you ever had a book that you were embarrassed to read in public? Well this was mine… I mean have you seen those covers! These books were a fun and quick read that I really enjoyed. I love it when you relate with a character in your book! At times it felt a bit cheesy but that’s what I was in the mood for so it worked. I marathoned this series pretty quickly. (Team Daemon… Obviously)

  • 4)The Shatter Me Trilogy by Tahereh Mafi

Another book that I really didn’t know too much going into, definitely wasn’t expecting the XMEN turn it took. I really enjoyed the first half of the first book, it reminded me a lot of a short story I read in high school called The Yellow Wallpaper. Truthfully with this book I was more concerned and interested in the love triangle more than the actual conflicts with the government and the war going on. This has to be the biggest turn around I have ever had concerning my opinions on a character. First book: go die Warner. Second and Third Book: AWWWWWW WARNER

I also got to reread a couple books from my childhood favorite series Gallagher Girls so that’s always fun to! (Team Zach!)

And so many more books that this post would be terribly long! My goodreads account was probably freaking out with all the books i added! :)

So now I’m in College… And the reading struggle is real! I brought a small stack of books hoping to read them and so far they haven’t been touched. And I don’t want to start something that I could potentially love, and have to put it down so much that I’m not able to appreciate it. I really hope to at least read a couple of these books this semester… But I will get through this!

Books I brought with me to school:

1) Blood Red Road by Moria Young (to reread)

2) Rebel Heart by Moria Young

3) The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

4) Shades of Earth by Beth Revis

5) The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

6) The Odessa File by Frederick Forsyth

Reading for me has always been an escape, and these past weeks have been hard without it. Books have truly become apart of me and I love it!

New to this

I've never had a blog before, and the little experience i have had with journaling has not been that great. But then again i have always been forced into it, never really given a choice. So i guess we will see were this goes.

When i started reading i almost exclusively only read dystopian books. The hunger games was the first book i truly fell in love with and since then books have been a huge part of my life. Recently I've started trying books from other genres, while still keeping in the YA community. My first try at a contemporary was horrible, i hated it and it took me awhile to try  it again. The second time around was a lot better, but i am still more of an adventure book gal. But i can now appreciate and have fun reading other things. Fantasy and sci fi are a lot easier for me to get into. I have recently become completely obsessed with the Throne of Glass series and am super excited that its going to be 6 books!

I'm happy with how much i have been able to read as of late, and hope that i will always have the time to read because it really helps me with relaxing and taking will needed time for myself. I love being absorbed into a world and falling in love with the characters.

Well i guess i will see were this whole blog thing takes me.
